Welcome to BCastLive, the definitive broadcasting service of Harimedia LLC.

We offer the web streaming services to Robert Campagnola, also known as Hari from
harimedia.net. We have created a system whereby Robert can broadcast a stereo stream of audio along with video of him speaking. His speech is translated simultaneously into Russian by a translator in Moscow and mixed into the audio on one distinct side of the stereo mix with Robert’s voice on the other side. This allows the viewers to pan their speakers to either one language or the other, or to create a custom mix of the two. This was done to accommodate the many non-english speaking viewers (the majority of which speak Russian). Accomplishing this in real-time was no easy task and since the budget of Harimedia was extremely small due to the idealistic, spiritual nature of the work being done as a service to the viewers, this translation had to be provided cheaply. We are using the extremely sophisticated and customizable conferencing program called TAConf, created by Tom Grandgent. The latency of the translation is exactly the ping time between Florida and Moscow. This gives maximally a 500ms delay, unnoticeable in this situation.

The mixing of the audio into the broadcast is accomplished using three external audio mixers in tandem on three computers. As the broadcast is simulcast in Video and Audio only formats, creating a studio environment wherein the internal and external audio sources, including music, is captured and streamed as well as recorded for inclusion on harimedia.net, is no simple task and one that took quite some time to perfect. It is easy to broadcast a single point to a single point in one language as this is the principle behind all video conferencing services like Skype or MSN. It is also easy to broadcast it to multiple points using Shoutcast or Icecast servers and nsvcap or quicktime if one has a OS X server. One can always broadcast from one’s home if one has the bandwidth to do so. However, as Robert’s broadcasts are usually attended by over 50 unique locations (each location with a variable amount of attendees), a powerful server is required, and since the nature of the broadcast includes a translator on another continent, a powerful low latency tool is required to deliver the audio fast enough to be relevant.

On these pages you will find instructions on how to view the broadcast as well as instructions on how to adjust TAConf and make connections if you are invited to connect directly to Hari (Robert Campagnola) during his broadcast.
